Rocko's Modern Life, the Nickelodeon series that capped it's four-season run in 1996, is returning for an upcoming special - and the original voice cast is returning as well, reuniting after two decades.
Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, an hour-long special, is set to air in 2018, and will feature the returns of Carlos Alazraqui as Rocko (and additional voices including Spunky and Leon), Tom Kenny as Heffer (and additional voices including Chuck and Really Really Big Man), Doug "Mr." Lawrence as Filburt Turtle, Charlie Adler as Ed and Bev Bighead (and additional voices including Mr. Dupette, Grandpa Wolfe, and Mrs. Fathead), Linda Wallem as Aunt Gretchen and Dr. Hutchinson, Jill Talley as Nosey, and Joe Murray as Ralph. New cast members include Steve Little (Adventure Time) and Cosmo Segurson.
***Spoilers ahead for the original Rocko's Modern Life finale***
Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling is set after the events of the series finale "Future Shlock," which saw Rocko, Heffer, Filburt and his kids leaving Earth and headed into outer space. They're back, and - well, can you imagine stepping onto the planet for the first time and seeing what we've made of ourselves since 1996?
Nickelodeon tells Entertainment Weekly:
Rocko has trouble accepting this 21st century modern life, while Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media and the endless diversity of food trucks. Rocko whole-heartedly believes that his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world.”
NIckelodeon also plans to bring back fan favorite properties Invader Zim and Hey Arnold!, in upcoming television movies and specials.
