Friday May 4 was Star Wars Day, and Solo: A Star Wars Tale Director Ron Howard marked the occasion by releasing a brilliant Star Wars/Arrested Development mashup video. Howard has been the voice of Arrested since 2003, long before he took over the directing reigns of Solo from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The two franchises may not seem to have a lot in common other than Howard's involvement, but scratch beneath the surface and there are quite a few commonalities. Both, for instance, mine familial dysfunction for humor and story; to say nothing of the occasional awkward and inappropriate romance.
“Arrested Development: Star Wars with Ron Howard” is very loyal to both series, and like the best Arrested Development jokes, these will stick with you for years. Howard's deadpan delivery shines as always, and Star Wars naturally lends itself to the good-natured goofing.
In other May 4 Arrested developments, Netflix premiered the show's "remixed" fourth season was on Friday. It's very different than the original season 4 release, which broke format by centering each episode around an individual character rather than moving the collective story forward. The remix feels much more like a new season of the original Arrested Development run on Fox, in ways good and bad. Fans of the show should check it out, it's certainly different and while there is not much new footage, Howard delivers some very funny new narration.
Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters May 25.
