Tonight, neither of the big two is spared, as DC Universe has given us every possible sign that it has no intention of improving, that it is little more than a scam, and that their mistaken belief that shooting in North Carolina would net them $30 Million. Sadly, they ONLY got 16.3 million, which is actually 4.3 million more than North Carolina ever gives anyone, ever. But that’s why Swamp Thing was abruptly cut short a few weeks ago, why production was halted, and why today, 6 days after the well-received series premiere, Swamp Thing was cancelled.Read More
Star Wars Episode 9 has a new title, and a new trailer! You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/adzYW5DZoWs
The trailer raises many questions, not the least of which is it’s very curious title, suggesting that Rey’s secret heritage may finally be revealed. But she’s not alone - Kylo Ren has his lightsaber back, and perhaps his helmet, too! Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker is giving her guidance, though perhaps as some disembodied Force spirit, or through teachings which he’s written or recorded for her? Mark Hamill himself warns of Star Wars fatigue, and has some less than kind things to say about the current state of LucasFilm, on the Hollywood Reporter’s 'Awards Chatter' podcast: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/race/mark-hamill-podcast-interview-typecasting-star-wars-fatigue-emmy-contending-knightfall-role-1199983Read More
Bob Iger's presentation to Disney shareholders today was livestreamed, and a lot more exciting than your average shareholders meeting. Iger took the stage at Disney's Buena Vista HQ to announce the details of their long-awaited upcoming streaming service, Disney Plus. From the date, to the astonishingly low price, to programming and even a look at the interface. I took a lot of notes, and have followed the coverage, and I've got the details on this huge new multimedia platform on tonight's episode of The Matt Sager Podcast!Read More
Angelina Jolie has reportedly signed on with Marvel, to play a character in their upcoming Eternals movie! Her character has not been named, but my money’s on Circe. Any other guesses? Agree or disagree, I’d love to hear from you so make sure to listen to the end of tonight’s podcast for all of my contact information.
Meanwhile, DC is reportedly yet again striking omnibuses, and other trade hardcover and paperback collections, which is always a downer. This one really hurts, as it includes an omnibus dedicated to the Bronze Age adventures of the best villain ever, and the later works of the inimitable Jack Kirby.Read More
Disney made two very smart decisions today: they’ve rehired James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and they’ve returned Danai Gurira to the Avengers: Endgame poster, and this time they included her name along with the rest of the characters, at the top of the poster. These were both very preventable errors, but at least Marvel and Disney are capable of recognizing, and correcting, their mistakes.
If only Arrested Development fared as well. The final episodes of season 5, and probably the last of the series, trickled onto Netflix today and the once-amazing show, which should be thriving in the age of Trump, went out with a whimper.Read More
Despite James Murdoch allegedly confiding that Bones was, during its long run, Fox's biggest earner, Fox has been found guilty of fraud, lying and cheating the cast and creators of the show, and are going to have to pay $179 million for their, and I'm quoting the arbitrator here, "reprehensible" behavior. I know, who would have believed Fox would ever be capable of such a thing? I mean those lovely skeletons on Fox and Friends seem like lovely people to me, as does Laura Schlessinger - but apparently there are some bad hombres over there, who somehow missed the memo that you don't ever want to tangle with David Boreanaz in a legal environment - did these executives somehow miss Angel season 5?
In any case, and in all seriousness, I applaud the cast and creators of Bones for fighting the good fight, and congratulate them for their huge victory. For the complete story, here's an excellent summary from the Hollywood Reporter: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/fox-rocked-by-179-million-bones-ruling-lying-cheating-reprehensible-studio-fraud-1190346Read More
Captain Marvel is set to premiere, and with it, the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins. So why are so many fans convince that Brie Larson hates white men, and review-bombing the movie on Rotten Tomatoes? For that matter, why are people who are actually excited for the amazing-looking movie allowed to leave reviews when none of these people have seen the movie? Kind of kills your credibility, RT - maybe wait until it’s possible that some of these people have actually seen the film, and developed an opinion rather than a bizarre conspiracy theory? I’m just saying.
Meanwhile, there’s been some speculation - which, after a few hours, is of course being reported all across the internet as fact - which I actually do find interesting. It involves Captain Marvel and a nasty encounter with Rogue of the X-Men, which happened in the comics and which will be possible soon as Disney completes its takeover of Fox. I actually think there might be something to this, and if not there should be - it's a neat idea.Read More
The trailer for Tolkien was released today - it’s the biopic that tells of a quiet, peaceful, solitary soul, called to a great adventure known as World War I. It’s clear that this movie is about how real events shaped the fantasy world of Middle-Earth that Tolkien would create upon his return home. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/Girzu81oS8QRead More
Collectibles retailer Entertainment Earth got their hands on a letter sent out to Fox shareholders, with some rather revealing letterhead. It appears as though the timeline of Disney's acquisition of Fox is moving ahead much faster than has been reported - or conceivably it's been finalized, and for some reason they simply haven't announced it yet.Read More
Bryan Cranston confirmed the Breaking Bad movie on the Dan Patrick Show, but claims he hasn't received a script or any word as to who is in it. Rumors have it this may be the continuing adventures of Jesse Pinkman, but what that means for Walt - his involvement, or lack thereof - will be very interesting. I can't wait! Plus, I have some more details on the upcoming Disney streaming service, particularly how it will impact Marvel and Star Wars.Read More
There is no denying that Disney is going through a tough, uncertain, transitory time. Marvel's Netflix universe is collapsing, as the creator of much of its content has left for DC Entertainment. Daredevil's future is uncertain, and it's looking as though all of this is headed towards an exodus from Netflix in favor of Disney's streaming service, set to launch in 2019. Of course, Marvel needs to stay healthy before they transition to their new, proprietary platform, as does Star Wars.Read More
New York Comic Con was a lot of fun, and I look forward to recapping some of the highlights - although, truthfully, this con more than most was more about the people, my friends, than it was any new product. A lot of the premieres and sneak previews were pretty lame. And in any case, any NYCC talk will have to wait until after I recap the Better Call Saul season finale tomorrow.
So, let me take this opportunity to do what no other voice actor seems willing to - call out Rachel Butera for her disgusting mockery of sexual assault survivor Christine Blasey Ford, as she poured out her heart and relived her trauma, at incredible risk to her reputation and safety while Rachel thought it would be funny to mock her and post it on social media.Read More
