In the wake of the world premiere of Captain Marvel, the first reviews have begun to arrive, and trolls are frothing over every negative word, as they continue obsessing over utterly inoffensive (and true) remarks made by Brie Larson. Nothing like an aggrieved white male. Speaking of, James Woods has called for a boycott and - I’m sure this is totally innocent - urging everyone to see a rather lousy looking action movie instead. I’m sure he doesn’t have any personal and/or financial interests in this, and that this isn’t just the worst kind of cynical opportunism. That said, I’m not going to take him up on the suggestion, or even participate in any of this nonsense. I’ll see the movie Friday, and if I like it I’ll say so. If I don’t like it, I’ll say that too. It’s not as though every great Marvel character has had stellar movies - see Thor 1 and 2, or Iron Man 2 and 3, and you’ll see what I mean. A great character can survive 1, or even 2 stinker solo films, and still go on to win your heart and brighten the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Oh and by the way I was attacked last night! I’m fine, and the attempted mugging was unsuccessful - but hey, some real life drama to go along with all this speculation about superhero movies and television, that’s always exciting.Read More
